NIBA is hosting an upcoming fundraising event in Tacoma, WA, and I hope you can attend!
Through my work in Indian law, I have often worked with colleagues at the Northwest Indian Bar Association and support their work to increase the participation of Native people in the legal profession. Unfortunately, across multiple reputable sources, American Indian and Alaska Native attorneys make up only about 0.4% to 0.5% of the legal profession, the smallest representation of any racial or ethnic group.
The Northwest Indian Bar Association is a nonprofit organization of Native American attorneys, Indian law practitioners, and legal professionals across Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington that works to strengthen legal support for tribal communities while advancing the growth of Native legal professionals. It provides mentorship, role models, and educational support for Native youth and law students—including scholarships and bar exam stipends—and maintains resources such as a tribal referral list and pro bono initiatives that benefit Indian Country.
